An item celebrating achievements of Your Move at Coolbinia Primary was conducted at the school assembly on Friday 11th June. The Year 4 Room 9 Your Move team reported on achievements in 2020 and during Semester 1 2021: The school was awarded Platinum accreditation in 2020; we earned $8,545 worth of Dept of Transport Your Move Rewards in 2020; at end of 2020 we had 32% of students using active transport compared to 23% at the start of the year; our Connecting Schools grant paid for bike maintenance and bike education for all students in Years 4-6 in Term 1 this year; the school also ran a successful Your Move Festival in Term 1; we did a stencil activity in the streets around the school in Term 2 and will have organised a bike decorating competition at the end of this term; and finally, we conduct Fume Free Fridays and special event days each term with amazing prizes.
To complete the Room 9 YM activities for this term there will be another Fume Free Friday special event with giveaways for children coming to school in an active way. Also, to celebrate World Bicycle Day and Road Safety Week in June, the YM team is conducting a Bike Decorating Competition. This exciting event will be held on Wednesday 30th June, with students parading their decorated bikes in front of the whole school. Fabulous YM prizes are on offer, such as $50 gift vouchers, bike equipment and books. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in the following year level categories: K-PP, Yrs 1-2, Yrs 3-4 and Yrs 5-6. Competition entries are rolling in! The aim of these final Semester 1 events is to promote YM, encouraging everyone to be active when coming to school.
A new Your Move team will be in operation during Semester 2 this year. The Year 4 Room 8 class will take over the role so that by the end of the year all Year 4 students will have had experience in conducting Your Move events. Room 8 students will be preparing for this role soon, by attending the Your Move Leadership Lab at the end of this month. This Lab will be an excellent introduction to their Your Move adventures!
