Pre-primary students prepare for NR2SD!

On the Wednesday the 20th of March, just before the National Ride to School Day event, the students in Pre-primary had an introductory lesson and were learning about some road safety rules in the playground around the bike track. They had turns going around the track with some of the students holding the road signs to encourage riders to prepare to stop or not enter, in this case to keep off the sand pit. This basic approach was aimed to build on the students strengths and develop personal and social skills so they are able to manage themselves and others in traffic-related situations. It was a fun way to introduce road safety. The students were learning a song about riding a bicycle, a song taken from Nancy Kopman! For PP children and many young students, an introduction to road safety education is critical in ensuring that they learn how to ride safely, grow to become safe and responsible pedestrians, and bike riders. This type of learning can help prepare the younger students for future YM events at our school. We will be looking at more road safety learning for the younger years next term.
